Dating back to slavery, the dismantling of the Black family structure has garnered widespread attention within society and the media. Fortunately, Black TV of the ’90s diminished this notion and thrived on showcasing the importance of positive family units, including healthy relationships with extended “family” and friends as evidenced in shows such as Living Single.

HBCU Pride
It wasn’t peculiar or out of the ordinary to witness your favorite onscreen characters referencing or sporting paraphernalia from one of the many beloved HBCUs such as Florida A&M, Howard University, Hampton University and Fisk University, just to name a few. The widespread support and acknowledgement of education and historically Black colleges and universities in general was a universal storyline. The influential effect has left many wondering if Hillman College really exists, even to this day.
