Shirley Chisholm

Shirley Chisholm was an educator, author and Congresswoman for the 12th Congressional District of New York. She served seven terms and was the first Black woman elected to Congress. In 1972, Chisholm continued to make history, beginning with her run as the first Black major presidential candidate in the U.S. as well as being the first woman to run for the Democratic presidential nomination.
