  1. Bev Cashen says:

I think Mr. Daniels need to take several seats! I have not heard of one person who have said that Monique was blackballed in Hollywood, except him! She does not need to defend herself.

  2. …Why is it that I want to grab that guy by the collar, and shake the shit outta him? Ms. Mo'Nique, never sell yourself short, and never compromise your values.

  3. This is a women's rights issue. Here is a woman who reasonably asked to be paid for equal work (or be paid period) and is getting the backlash from a black male who is acting as proxy for his white counterparts. Sad and she need not respond. More women need to stand up for her by not watching anything that Lee Daniels touch.

  4. And this is why we need our own shit!

  5. Jana Hunt says:

Doesn't he owe Dame Dash 2 million dollars?

  6. we got to stop expecting to find our value in their award shows. their awards don't mean jack to me. I do not respect any of their awards, including the nobel peace prize, and neither should all Black people. $50,000 for precious, that's all? they made more, didn't they? $50,000 for that dirty piece of entertainment? I guess that is poetic justice.

  7. Talika Brown says:

    Lee Daniels is a sell-out

  8. Lee Daniels #SteteotypicalUncleTom

  10. Domo Queen says:

This is not a women's right issue. This is just a Black issue. We're not talking about a regular "man" she's requesting equal treatment from… this is not a name based in masculinity and taking care of women, this is a man who loves men. He is therefore not qualified to be in the same category as any natural man. More Black people in general, especially BlackMEN need to stand up for her! They're the ones who should be on the forefron of the fighting grounds. We can't expect just all "women" to give af. All "women" are not the same as us… didn't Arquette just say at the awards that Minorities need to stand up for white women the way they've stood up for us? (totaly disrespect, but this goes to the state of mind of all those other women) Their plight is not the same as ours. We can't keep disconnecting being Black over being a woman.

  11. She respectfully declined, right… Ok. She choose to be comfortable and be with her wife and kids. Her boss, who is her employer gave her an instruction and she was subordinate. When that happens nine times out of ten you're out. Mo'Nique should have played the game and went to Paris, and invested that cash so she could bubbled off of that promotion.

  13. she was only paid 50K to do the movie precious? That is insane.

  14. CJ Johnson says:

Totally agree. We have to start, if not for our generation but for the next one begin to separate our talents and value our own people and talents. They do it all the time without apology. We have to stop being the victims of illusion of inclusion. Thanks for sharing.

  15. You're right, she should have did her job.

  16. Andre Whyte says:

" Sell out" that term has been used for years now. My question is this " Is there a lifestyle that we can buy into?" I see in the comment "we need out own sh*t". Yet the value of the BET awards are still low. How about the Earl Awards named after James Earl Jones. Mr. Darth Vader himself. I think more content should be put around our productions to identify what the message is attempting to target. That way it will he clear. God Bless.

  17. Andre Whyte says:

    Pardon the typos*

  18. she did her job the movie was over. the guy was lying and that's obvious, Monique.
on the other hand gave exact answers. liars talk in ambiguous terms like he did.

  19. What Monique fails to realize is this is Hollywood & everybody knows everybody. You damn right it got around that they paid you 50k. You damn right it got around that you sat out for money at the end of it all. You damn right that they're going to offer you lowball salaries for movies based on EVERYTHING YOU DID! We hear about sacrifices these white actors make all the time. Monique just admit you f'd up & yes in a sense your dumb azz was black balled. Never liked any role you ever played & probably wouldn't have liked Precious either. Keep doing you though boo boo! #juststupid

  20. That's not insubordinate she has the right to refuse this is America. She has a family you don't have to jump to everything they want!!!
    .

  21. What happen to all the millions she made? Save your money Mo Nique. You are a crazy woman!!

  22. When you get broke in showbuzz?

  23. Sorry but she is begging her ass off.

  24. When the money is gone?

  25. Que Hampton says:

Just another reminder of why black people need to branch out and become employers and stop settling for employees. I understand 100% of what Mo'Nique is saying, however, when you're an employee you can receive the axe for anything. She took that insignificant 50k, for the star and leading role, because she needed it. Mo'Nique has a name well enough in the black community were she can open up business avenues for herself. This will allow her to set the tone for what she will and won't accept when it comes to Hollywood.

  26. If flying out of the country to participate in press wasn't explicitly stated in her contract, then she was not legally bound to do so. Your comment is obsolete. I respect her for standing her ground and choosing her family over Hollywood politics.

  27. Your comment has no merit. How is she stupid for choosing her family over promoting a movie? If it was not stated in her contract to promote the movie then she wasn't obligated to do so. Everybody isn't willing to sell their soul for acceptance in White America.

  28. Simona Onae says:

    You sound like you're #teamleedaniels

  29. Elle V Elle says:

wait… $50K… wait. what? that shuts down the entire conversation. Mo's no sellout. OWN YOUR OWN. *It'sTime.

  30. Arelowo Alao says:

That movie made millions and all she got was 50k SMH

  31. Mike Brown says:

Lee Daniels is a clown and a UNCLE TOM. U HAVE TO PLAY THE GAME FOR WHITE PEOPLE .IF U DON'T THEN U WILL BE BLACK BALLED. THE SAME SHIT THEY HAVE BEEN DOING FOR YEARS. LEE DANIELS STAND UP FOR YOUR SELF AND YOUR PEOPLE .

  32. That is all we have been doing. For 500 years we have been playing somebody else’s game, without being taught the rules. I say it is about time that we created our own game and to hell with them and theirs. All they do is study us and then 20 or 30 years later they repackage our stuff and present it to the world as the product of their cultural and ethic genius. BIG UP Mo’Nique Nuff love and respect to you…..11.

  33. Trina Perry says:

She didn't realize that the movie would be a hit, and so she was mad because she only agreed to a 50K salary for her work, which I don't understand. Who is her agent? I think she should have gone to Cannes WITH her family and had the studio pay for it. They would have had an experience they would NEVER forget.I think she should fire her agent and get on with rebuilding the career she deserves to have.

  34. Trina Perry says:

Haha. Sure your right. It WAS dirty. Just like the book. Truth be told, I loved her performance. But her bad for not negotiating her worth. I hope she knows her worth now.

  35. Trina Perry says:

    What do you mean?

  36. Trina Perry says:

Nah. I think she's mad because she failed to negotiate a decent salary and realized it AFTER the movie was slated to be a hit. After that, she's like "Fuck y'all."

  37. "reverse racism"? she is not hollywood's slave. they don;t own her.

  38. Shawn Mc says:

hell the movie was made for pennies, no one knew it would be popular. it was probably made for no more than 20 million, hell half that goes to promotion.

  39. Shawn Mc says:

its not like shes a major star, hell her last couple films were soul plane and some other bull which she was paid about that same price.

she just didn't want to do it then she raised her asking price way too much.

  40. Shawn Mc says:

she did the parkers and a couple straight to video movie like soul plane, what millions, shes a working actress period.

  41. Shawn Mc says:

before the oscar mo'nique was on a tv show, been a so so comedienne and had small bit parts in movies like soul plane,
what the hell made her think she was a full fledged movie star expecting the big bucks after one role?
you still gotta prove yourself and deal with the lack of parts for women of color.

  42. Shawn Mc says:

they been saying before you were born, let it go bro.

  43. Shawn Mc says:

before the oscar mo'nique was on a tv show, been a so so comedienne and had small bit parts in movies like soul plane,
what the hell made her think she was a full fledged movie star expecting the big bucks after one good role?

the problem is she was suppose to be cast in his other projects but she wanted more money and he felt like I gave you the role and now you treat me like this.

  44. Shawn Mc says:

mo'nique isn't a big draw to movies, he could of got anyone, he was doing her a favor considering she wasn't a serious actress, hell she did the parkers and soul plane but shes a comedienne.

hell he was going to hook her up in all his movies, it was pretty much you look out for me and il look out for you.

  45. Elle V Elle says:

Shawn Mc don't believe it "Monique isn't a big draw to movies"… she was absolutely amazing in Precious. Lots of talent. Don't always like her "brazeness", but she is who she is. And, she stands up for what she believes. What's most depressing however is, when a brother admits that he is a "sellout"… "Play ball" is not always the same as "sell out". For a sister like me, that believes in the rise and power of our people, to hear a brother speak that publicly that he is a "sell out" is disheartening and "ain't ever good!". Never!

  46. Lee Daniels is a sellout. Plain and simple. Fox doesn't care about people of color, most time their bashing us. But oh! They will take our money and laugh all the way to the bank!! Daniels is so worried about homophobia but its okay to have racism rampant in Hollywood and he won't speak about that. SAD!!!

  47. Terence Mac says:

For one Monique! how are you going to get paid $50,000 for a movie that sold millions. That means you have poor management skills in the industry. I like Monique, considering the bad management.
How can anybody offer someone such low pay and advise you to go to another place for there company and not pay the expenses? And call it playing ball" It sounds like another Willie Lynch formula that was used on the black producer. Now he's wanting to retaliate talking about playing Ball".

  48. You know the truth when you hear it. Monique lhas played the raunchy comedy circuit. She knows how the game is played. Shed opted to hang up her "Ho" heels and stand tall like a dignified African Women. SHe was paid $50,000 to make one of the most pathological movies in the history of Black cinema. She attempted to rectify that misstep by now promoting it. Typical to form White folks awarded her with an Academy Award. Something Cicely Tyson never received. Maybe if she had a penis like some others associated with this campaign to deduce black talent to "trade" she would have happily joined the Frey with the other predators misappropriating the lives of Black people.

  49. Trina Perry says:

Shawn Mc Nor did she "play the game" when it came to promoting the film. She just stewed about how she was screwed over. To her own peril.
