Black people in China are the hardest hit by racism of all the ethnic groups. For instance, many people in China believe that being Black means you’re poor. This stems from the class divisions within Chinese culture, according to www.chinaexpat.com. In a familiar refrain, light-skinned Chinese people looked down on darker-skinned people for thousands of years, and those dark-skinned people were relegated to being peasant farmers.

Am a single mother, from Chicago and I have been here 4 times, and lived here twice. I must say that out of all the countries I have visited, I choose to raise my daughter here, let me explain why. I currently live in Shanghai and love it! My daughter is 5 and speaks the language quite well, my grown son has been here and loves the country. Now there is some truth to the items you mentioned ( 7 reasons why China is racist) but you have misrepresented a few things, because I feel "maybe" no shade; but you lack the culture understandings of our distant cousins.
1. Color – In asian antiquity the most revered gods "were of black skin" meaning that over time, this concept of beauty has changed over eons not only with the Chinese, but us too!
2. Fei- really I think that brawl was because they probably heard the word,"niga" which means "that" "jiga" means "this". So maybe it was possible that they used that phrase, and the players got pissed. so that fei joint, you can dismiss that as the comment that created this brawl , because these player don't know what fei means, but well all know what nigga is.

This country was closed off, and because of the lack of outside intervention, the Chinese were able to grow and prosper and became hyper-nationalist, so in modern times, it was whites who had more access to them, thus the reason for their perceptions.
4.1988 ok in truth this did happen, however, the catalyst to this was because many Africans, unfortunately were like many of the dark muslims in this country become drug runners to support themselves, and this has become a stigma, same stuff that happens right down the street from you.
5. House of horrors – not so much. China has refashioned the African continent and you will find that there are more Chinese men and women marrying Africans than anytime in "modern history". Ancient history is another conversation for another time. I suggest you read Richard Wright's the Color Curtain, so you can understand the politics behind the Sino-African relationship.
6. Negro's do it to their own people, so I'm not going to give much credence to this comment.

Jaeger Huntley It's sad that you feel that way. I have to assume you do, because you certainly can't speak for me. That's a bit of a cop-out of a response, I think. There are a crazy number of beautiful black women in the media, movies and athletics that are quite main stream. Not just in America, but also Europe… I'm pretty sure we've gotten past that, quite a few years ago.
And, regardless, western culture has nothing to do with Chinese cultural bias. It is narcissistic to think that Americans can influence an entire culture (and, in this case, in a completely inaccurate manner). And let's not forget there's only one slanderous line in the entire article that addresses western culture. #1 Reason why Chinese people hate black people: Chinese men have micro penises and black men generally have large ones. The reason the average penis size of men is ~4inches is because of all those small dick China boys. 6inches is probably more or less average, so if you think 6inches is big you're actually just average.

It's ridiculous to even consider it, withiin the context of the article. Discrimination in all form should be condemned. You cant deny the ripple effect of western prejudices against africans. They are portrayed in movies and other medium. Are we going to say that the stereotypes and systematic racism against black people in america isn't setting bad examples for others? I've watched a Korean tv show where the quest was admired to a fault due to his long nose, everyone in the audience were asked if yhey wished to have it, they all chorused yes. While I can't deny that there isn't racism in Asia, I think we also have to put things into context here. To begin with, yes, there are some Chinese people who use the term "Black Ghost", but they also use a similar term for white people or any race or ethnic group not Chinese for that matter. The term "Yang Gwei Tzi" was used to call the Europeans who first came to China, basically to steal from the country. The term literally translates as "western ghost" or "western devil".
Secondly, dark-skinned Chinese people were not relegated to becoming peasant farmers because they are dark-skinned. They became dark-skinned because they were peasant farmers. Chinese people, particularly Southern Chinese people, tan easily. Unfortunately, the idea of light skin being coveted existed because people warped something from Confucius, where he believed that people who used their minds at work were superior to people who used their brains. However, he also said that farmers were the backbone of society. After all, society would cease to exist, if we didn't have farmers.
Yes, there are many Chinese people who would rather talk to white people than black people, but, unfortunately, that is an example of internalized racism that also exists in the rest of the world: Latin America, the West Indies, the Middle East, and, yes, even Africa, i.e. colonial mentality. Furthermore, let us look at the racism places like Europe, too, or even here in the United States, where people should know better. It embarrasses me, when someone from China or Taiwan would rather pay someone from France to teach them English, instead of a Chinese-American born and raised in Flushing. They even discriminate against Chinese-Americans.
Does it make me angry, when I hear about these things going on in Taiwan and China? Of course it does. I am embarrassed by it, but let us also put some things into perspective here.

As an Asian American, I've faced a lot of racial comments. There were people who actually thought I knew martial art, and all of these was due to the media.
If TV media is your only source of knowledge, you'll probably have the same misconception about other races. But you've probably interacted with many different type of people, so you know that some are not what the media portray them as.
We generalize, that's how humans think. From the moment we are born, we are pattern recognizing species. The more patterns we see of something, the more we think of it as true.

I personally lived in Southeast China and traveled to Northern China for nearly a year and let me just say right from the start I felt safer, respected, and appreciated as a human being in China than a black American in America. I went to school in nanjing for 3 years and lived near He hai university where the mobs originated. I was told that black students got into a fight with security guards when the guards wouldnt allow their chinese girlfriends in because they must have been prostitutes if they were with the black dudes. I have a couple of questions. Are Black people in China harder hit by racism than the Japanese? Also, what about poor Chinese minorities or people from the hinterland? Uygurs, inner mongolians and Tibetans are heavily maligned and illtreated by the Han majority. Do I think that racism exist against blacks in China? Yes. But to completely make us the core of that racism in China is ignoring the long existing racism that existed there within East Asia before the introduction of the Western Black-White racial paradigm.

The reason for the segregation varies… A LOT! I've been apartment shopping and when the landlord is told… "Oh, a foreigner wants to rent your home" immediately they say…. "NO AFRICANS." I always ask why they say this and they give me a million reasons totally unrelated to Skin color.
One of my Black colleagues from the U.S. lives here and has no problems at all being black in China and living among the Chinese. When he is apartment shopping he makes it clear he is an American. My African friends/colleagues also do just fine, they make it clear they are from SOUTH AFRICA.
The issue is not with skin color… Believe me, just that there isn't many foreigners here and the ones who are black are usually from Nigeria, Kenya, etc. Which here are related to a hell of a lot of negative and illegal activity.

In order for understanding to take place, there has to be some sort of change in mentality in order to receive the message. The challenge is getting that shift to happen with older folks who are so entrenched in their ways and beliefs.

As a white person married to a person of dark skin it staggers me this whole conversation. Every country and ethic group have racism in that group. Yet when people hear the term its automatically put in the context of white people towards other races. When my wife and I travel to The USA we get lots of dirty looks when we are together and this is not from white people but from Black females most of the time. Yet we travel to a lot of other countries and no one even looks twice. So my point is people need to clean up there own back yard before looking over the fence.
