Reports have surfaced that Beyonce will publicly address the Jay Z divorce rumors during her performance at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 24.

Ever since her sister Solange and Jay Z made headlines for their elevator fight at a Met Gala after-party in May, rumors of a troubled marriage have been plaguing the powerhouse songstress and her hip-hop mogul husband.

Even their chemistry onstage during their On the Run tour this summer and tons of family photos posted to Instagram have not been enough to dispel the rumors that a divorce is on the way.

According to a source for Hollywood Life, Queen Bey is ready to address whether her marriage is in turmoil or not.

“Beyonce wants to tackle the rumors in the best way she knows how, onstage,” the source told Hollywood Life. “During her performance, she is looking to do something to hopefully silence all the haters and the critics but, in true entertainment fashion, to make even more questions come out of it. She wants to make a statement that people will be talking about for a very long time.”

The idea of Beyonce using her VMA performance to make a huge statement is not too far-fetched considering her last VMA performance from 2011.

The Partition singer took to the stage in a buttoned-up blazer only to unbutton it at the end of the performance and rub her belly – announcing she was pregnant with her daughter, Blue Ivy.

Meanwhile, other publications have still been claiming that the Carter household is truly about to split.

According to US Weekly, the couple has already drafted a statement that they will send to The Associated Press should they choose to split.

Meanwhile, Page Six reported that lawyers had been tagging along with the couple on their tour due to their rocky marriage.

Neither Beyonce nor Jay Z has openly commented on the divorce rumors, although Beyonce did team up with rapper Nicki Minaj to address the elevator fight between her sister and husband.

On her Flawless remix, Beyonce sent social media into a frenzy with the line, “Of course sometimes s**t go down when it’s a billion dollars on an elevator.”

More recently, she also posted a sexy picture of herself in a “Carter” jersey, which led some fans to believe that Mr. and Mrs. Carter were doing just fine.

For now, fans will have to wait for Queen Bey to take the stage to see if they’ll finally get any answers from Mrs. Carter herself.

Independent journalism doesn't fund itself.

We hope this story was worth your time. For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed Black-owned and independently run. We didn't get here by waiting on ad budgets that were never built to prioritize us. Our readers did that.

Corporate support for Black media has always been thin. Outlets like ours get roughly 1% of the $170 billion spent on U.S. advertising each year, and that margin is shrinking further as advertisers walk back the DEI-linked commitments they made in 2020. That's the backdrop. It's not why we're asking.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
