Rick Ross’ Mastermind album was one of the most anticipated albums of 2014, and now he has the sales to go along with it. Ross beat out Pharrell Williams and his GIRL album to take the No. 1 spot on the latest Billboard 200 chart. As reported by rap-up.com
“Rozay rules the charts once again. The Miami rapper scores his fifth No. 1 album with Mastermind. The sixth album from Rick Ross debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 179,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
“It marks his fifth No. 1 album to date (2010′s Teflon Don debuted at No. 2). His previous album, 2012′s God Forgives, I Don’t, still holds his best week ever with 218,000.”
Rick Ross thanked fans by taking to Twitter to show his elation over his chart-topping success.
“WE #1..EVERY ONE OF U WHO BELIEVED IN ME I PRAY U #RICHFOREVER,” Ross tweeted.
Pharrell debuted at No. 2 on the charts with sales of 112,000 according to Soundscan. Skateboard P has no beef with Rick Ross beating him out for Billboard’s top spot, or for releasing his album on the same day.
“I’m happy to be on the same day as him,” Pharrell told Angie Martinez of Hot 97 in a recent interview. “I love what he does. And although music is changing, it’s awesome to see him reinvent himself.”
It’s great to see Ross and Pharrell taking the top two spots on Billboard, proving that there’s always room for healthy competition.
