Family Reunion: Outkast Getting Back Together

Rap duo Outkast are considered by some as  the best rappers to come out of the South, and arguably the best rap group go all time.

However, the Atlanta duo, comprised of Big Boi and Andre 3000, have not recorded together since 2006 as they’ve both been focusing on their solo careers. But it seems like that time is coming to an end as Outkast announced they will be officially getting back together.

According to billboard.com:

“And just like that, it’s official: Outkast will reunite and tour in 2014.

Revolt TV was the first to confirm the news, adding ‘the reunion is currently set to exist solely in the live setting, with no new album plans in sight, for now.

Earlier today, it was reported the band was ‘in talks’ to headline next year’s Coachella Music Festival as well as other unspecified festival dates.”

2006 was a long time ago in terms of pop culture, but Big Boi and Andre 3000 should be able to quickly recapture their former chemistry. The two rappers  worked together on songs earlier this year, but at the time they were quick to shut down any reunion rumors. As reported by billboard.com:

“Earlier this year, Andre 3000 and Big Boi appeared together on a remix of Frank Ocean’s Pink Matter, as well as a remix of T.I.‘s Sorry. But Andre was quick to dispel any inclination that it was an Outkast reunion. ‘I never want to mislead our audience – I worried that some would think these were Outkast collaborations,’ he said.  These songs are not Outkast collaborations. I discussed this rationale with Big, Frank and T.I. and everyone agreed. That is why I was surprised to read about these remixes.’ Around that same time, Big Boi tweeted with regard to Ocean’s album, ‘Dre didn’t want an Outkast Record Coming out on anybody else LP.'”

With platinum records and Grammy awards already under their belts, Outkast has nothing to prove to anyone. But it will just be good for music to hear another Outkast record.
