Rapper Drake has signed on as ‘global ambassador’ for the Toronto Raptors. The job will reportedly revolve around helping to create a winning atmosphere for the NBA franchise.
“I think the common goal, we want to see the franchise get as big as possible,” Drake said Monday morning at a news conference for the Toronto Raptors.
The rapper’s role will include a number of different things, according to the Toronto Star:
“The hip-hop star will also launch a clothing line in conjunction with the team. Most intriguingly, he is being asked to consult on a complete redesign of the club’s image to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the franchise in the 2014-15 season.”
This is the first time the Raptors have enlisted the assistance of the Toronto-born superstar to help them reach new heights in their organization.
“I have been expressing interest in this position early on for a while now,” Drake said at the news conference.
“Obviously I won’t be able to be in the building every day but I am extremely dedicated to it,” Drake said of his new basketball role. “I do take it very seriously as a new job and a new chapter in my life. It’s not just something for the sake of all the cameras.”
