Paying Homage: Drake Brings Out Raekwon at ALIFE in NYC

Drake could change is nickname from “Drizzy” to “Busy”  with all promotional appearances and performances he made last week. The Toronto native was promoting his Nothing Was The Same album this weekend at the ALIFE store in New York City.

Drake performed for the packed store, and then surprised them with rapper Travis Scott and Wu-Tang Clan chief Raekwon. According to vibe.com:

“Drake’s New York promo run behind the release of his third LP, Nothing Was the Same, ended with an in-store performance of the album in its entirety at the ALIFE shoe store on the Lower East Side. Drake also had some guests with him like GOOD Music rapper Travis Scott, and the two performed Scott’s single ‘Upper Echelon’ to the packed-like-sardines crowd. In a nod to his Wu-Tang shout-out “Wu-Tang Forever” on Nothing Was the Same, Drake not only wore a Wu-Tang jersey but also had Wu-Tang’s…  Raekwon up on the mike.”

Raekwon’s appearance with Drake reaffirms that the Wu-Tang Clan are clearly fans of his, and that the main members of the crew have no problems with the Wu-Tang Forever” record. Some old-school Wu-Tang fans were critical of Drake’s reference, but maybe now they’ll come to terms with it since the crew is.

This may not be the last time we see Drake and Raekwon on stage, as there is reportedly a remix to the  “Wu-Tang Forever” track that features the New York rap group.

Nothing Was The Same was released last Tuesday and even though it was heavily leaked, it is still projected to break records, according to Billboard.
