New England Patriots player Vince Wilfork has torn his right Achilles tendon and is likely out for the remainder of the season, according to sources.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick spoke on Wilfork’s injury Monday morning, but didn’t provide reporters any specific details.
“I really don’t know much right now,” Belichick said, mentioning that he hasn’t had a chance to talk to the medical staff.
However, Belichick did say he may have more details Monday.
“It’ll all come together here at some point during the day,” he said.
Wilfork was sidelined in the Patriots’ 30-23 win against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday night. The defensive tackle left the competition in the first quarter, during the Falcons’ first possession. He never returned.
He was later carted to the locker room for a pre-examination.
“He’s a great player, we all know that, and he gives us great leadership,” Belichick said. “He’s a strong contributor on and off the field and in the locker room. … We’ll just have to see how things come together for him. Obviously if he’s not there, everybody will have to pull a little bit more weight on their end.”
