Pittsburgh Steelers’ Maurkice Pouncey Tears ACL, MCL

Pittsburgh Steelers player Maurkice Pouncey will be out for the rest of the season. The Pro Bowl center suffered injuries Sunday that will require surgery.

Pouncey tore his ACL and MCL in his right knee during the Steelers’ opening possession of their 16-9 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

When asked if the injuries were season-ending, head coach Mike Tomlin said, “I would assume so but that’s an assumption at this point.”

Pouncey is an all-star player and a leader as well, so this injury could have a major effect on the offensive line.

“It’s frustrating any time you lose guys that are key contributors, but that’s the business we’re in,” Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel said. “It happens every year with every team. One man’s misery is another man’s opportunity, and someone’s got to step up.”

Pouncey is one of the top centers in the NFL. The three-time Pro Bowler was elected captain by his teammates last week. In 2010, Pouncey was a first-round draft pick and became a starter early in training camp that same season.
