A new clip of “Baggage Claim,” the latest black rom-com on the horizon, has surfaced online and features actresses Lauren London and Paula Patton in an awkward engagement announcement scene.
Keeping in line with the current trend in high profile black movies, the film boasts an all star cast which, besides Patton and London, includes Derek Luke, Octavia Spencer, Taye Diggs, Djimon Hounsou, Jill Scott and Adam Brody.
“Baggage Claim“ is based on David E. Talbert’s 2005 novel of the same name, and features a lonely flight attendant who jets around the country in search of a husband. The story centers on the Montana Moore(Patton), who is frustrated with being single and embarks on a 30-day, 30,000-mile journey across America to find a suitor. Along the way she encounters several interesting prospects, including a preacher, a politician and a tycoon.
Fox Searchlight will release the film September 27, 2013, after moving it up a month. Given the number of black films scheduled to open between August and December this year, this season will boast the debut of the most movies in black cinema history. Some films had to have release dates pushed into early next year to avoid the competition.
Talbert directed and wrote the screenplay for the film.
