Giving Back: LeBron James Purchases Football Uniforms for His Former High School

LeBron James is proving to be a true philanthropist. Earlier this year, he pledged a $1 million gymnasium renovation of his former high school, St. Vincent-St. Mary. Now, the NBA star has purchased flashy new uniforms for the school’s football team for the 2013 season.

“I do it because I have a passion,” said James of his charity to his former school. “I do it because I want to do it. It’s not because someone came to me and said, ‘You should do this because you owe it to them.’ It’s something that was instilled in me to give back. This is my city, there’s 190,000 of us. For me to be one of the few to make it, it wasn’t hard at all.”

James unveiled the new uniforms during an event at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School for the LeBron James Family Foundation’s “I Promise” campaign. James took part in a fashion show, where he walked through a cloud of smoke to reveal the new cutting- edge Nike uniforms.

“It is awesome, man, to be able to go back,” James said. “I didn’t have a college. This is my college atmosphere. I have fun with all kids and to be in a position to give back, it means everything.”
