Frank Ocean Tears Vocal Cord After First Night On Australian Tour

When Frank Ocean isn’t busy dissing Chris Brown on the “Versace, Versace” remix, he’s trying to figure out how to make up to his Australian fans after one performance.

The R&B crooner launched his first tour in Australia with a concert Thursday night at Melbourne’s Festival Hall. Anticipation for the mini-tour was so high that, according to Live Nation promoters, a fourth date added after the first three nights sold out in “mere minutes.”

Ocean, however, couldn’t hold up his end of the bargain after the first performance on Thursday. A Live Nation representative released a statement to

Billboard.com:

“After last night’s concert… it was necessary to seek medical advice due to vocal issues Frank Ocean experienced during the show. It has subsequently been confirmed that Frank has suffered a small tear to one of his vocal cords and has received medical advice that he must rest his voice.”

Ocean’s scheduled Friday performance, in addition to two shows scheduled for Monday and Tuesday of next week at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion, have been canceled.

Live Nation revealed Ocean’s mini-tour was “built around his planned appearance at Splendour, in the east-coast beach town of Byron Bay.” The headlining appearance at the annual music festival was also canceled.

Earlier in the week, Ocean released lyrics to his verse on Atlanta rap trio Migo’s record “Versace, Versace.” In the lyrics posted on Tumblr, Ocean takes a swipe at Brown— who remained seated during February’s Grammy’s after Ocean received a standing ovation while accepting his award for Best Urban Contemporary Album.

“Versace, Versace I’ll play the piano/I’m not Liberace/You could stay seated, I’m taking that Grammy/Your music is sloppy.”

While the lyrics are witty and clever, it’s clear Ocean has other things to occupy his time. Although it wouldn’t be inconceivable to think Brown is smirking somewhere in a corner.
