Trailer for 'The Butler' is Something Else

Man, these parodies of Oscar bait movies just get more and more convincing! This fake trailer for The Butler posits a movie based on the real life of Eugene Allen, who served as a butler in the White House for over 30 years, from the 1950’s through the 80’s. Forest Whitaker plays “Cecil Gaines,” Allen’s fictional counterpart, while Oprah (Oprah!) plays his wife.

And just see who else is in this!  A stacked cast:

  • John Cusack as Richard Nixon
  • Jane Fonda as Nancy Reagan
  • Melissa Leo as Mamie Eisenhower
  • Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan
  • Liev Schreiber as Lyndon B. Johnson
  • Robin Williams as Dwight D. Eisenhower
  • James Marsden as John F. Kennedy
  • Minka Kelly as Jackie Kennedy
  • Jesse Williams as Rev. James Lawson

And that’s not even getting to Mariah Carey, David Oyelowo, Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Vanessa Redgrave, Lenny Kravitz, and more!

Such attention to detail, such pitch-perfect satire. The shameless melodrama. The suffocating self-importance. The racial condescension. I mean, look at Cusack! He’s barely attempting a Nixon impression. They didn’t even bother to make him look like the man! I think my favorite detail is that Lee Daniels is credited as the director. You just know that this is exactly the kind of movie he’d take on.

Man, what a great laugh. I wonder who’s behind this parody… The Weinstein Company? But they don’t have a sense of humor…

Wait…

Oh no.

This is real.

This is an actual movie that is coming out. October 18th. I will be first in line for this monstrosity.
