Jay-Z has finally landed – on the cover of TIME magazine.
Artist, entrepreneur Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter is one of seven public figures to grace the publication’s April 29 issue, which includes its annual list of the “100 Most Influential People In the World.”
As it’s been done in previous years, each background piece on the chosen 100 is written by another noteworthy public figure. In Jay-Z’s case, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg briefly chronicles the 42-year-old’s NYC success story and writes, “[Jay-Z]’s never forgotten his roots — ‘Empire State of Mind’ was a love song to our city.”
The carefully-curated list is arguably complete with celebrities from a diverse range of industries, but this year’s star-studded highlights include Jay-Z’s wife, Beyonce (written by Baz Luhrmann), who writes, “She and Jay-Z are the royal couple of culture, and she is the queen bee. She’s gone beyond being a popular singer, even beyond being a pop-cultural icon.”
