The newest trailer for Now You See Me just hit the web and it will make you want to believe in magic. Usually I’m very skeptical of a movie with magicians as the premise, but perhaps I’m just a bit cynical after The Incredible Burt Wonderstone came out. But really – WHO thought that was a good idea?
Anyway, Now You See Me actually looks like a quality movie about contemporary magicians with an Ocean’s Eleven-esque twist. Thankfully it doesn’t seem uber cheesy or overly David Blaine about it. Perhaps it’s the incredible cast that really sold me on it. Now You See Me features the likes of Jesse Eisenberg, Morgan Freeman, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Common, Dave Franco, Melanie Laurent, AND Michael Caine. Yep. All those actors. In one movie. Solid.
Now You See Me follows a group of stellar magicians called “The Four Horsemen ” led by Michael Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg) who use their slight of hand to rob from the rich and give to the poor. The foursome is planning an especially big magic heist, which catches the attention of federal agent Dylan Hobbs (Mark Ruffalo) and his Interpol officer Alma Vargas (Melanie Laurent). The Four Horsemen always seem to be one step ahead of the law and in order to stop them Agent Hobbs is forced to seek help from a legendary magic debunker, Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman).
While there’s no way anyone could pull off these magic tricks, it’s still fun to suspend reality for a moment and watch these modern day Robin Hoodlums do their thing.
