While not much is known about the new sci-fi thriller film, Transcendence starring Johnny Depp, we now know Kate Mara will also be appearing in it at some point.
Without even hearing the plot, Depp and Mara are reason enough to see the film. Perhaps any remaining skeptics will be persuaded by Wally Pfister. Wait.. who? Oh, only Christopher Nolan’s cinematographer and protege making his buzzed about directorial debut. Okayy, so now are you interested?
According to IMDB, the official Transcendence synopsis reads, “Two leading computer scientists work toward their goal of Technological Singularity, as a radical anti-technology organization fights to prevent them from creating a world where computers can transcend the abilities of the human brain.” Vulture more simply describes it as, “Johnny Depp plays a brilliant scientist whose mind is uploaded into a computer.” Either way, it sounds epic and awesome.
Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind, The Avengers) and Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3, The Prestige) have been cast as Max and Evelyn, respectively, but little is know about the characters. Same goes for Mara’s brand spanking new role. Guess we’ll just have to wait and find out.
Mara can currently be seen on Netflix’s first original series, House of Cards, which also stars Kevin Spacey. House of Cards begins filming season 2 this spring, but Mara will somehow make time for Transcendence as well. The film isn’t due out until April 25, 2014, so she’s got plenty of time.
