Atlanta, NCAA Will Have Big Music for ‘The Big Dance’

The Dave Matthews Band, Sting, Flo Rida and Ludacris are among the big name acts performing in free concert series.

The NCAA, Capitol One and Turner Live Events has announced the star-studded, versatile lineup for the 2013 NCAA Big Dance Concert Series, a three-day free music festival at Centennial Olympic Park on April 5-7.

Headlining the concert series on Friday, April 5, you can see Zac Brown Band, My Morning Jacket and Saints of Valory. On Saturday, April 6, Muse will take the stage, along with Flo Rida, Ludacris, and chart-toppers Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. And the Dave Matthews Band, Sting and Grace Potter & The Nocturnals will close things out on Sunday, April 7.

The Dave Matthews Band’s latest album, Away From The World entered the Billboard 200 chart at Number 1 last September. This winter, the band has appeared at the Sundance Film Festival and the Winter X Games. They’re looking forward to an appearance in late April at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Sting comes back to America on his extended Back to Bass Tour after a swing through Europe, Asia and the Middle East over the past year. This marks the first of two scheduled appearances in Metro Atlanta this year for Sting — the second will be at Chastain Park Amphitheater on June 10.

“Capital One is excited to bring two giant names in music to Atlanta during the Final Four,” said Roger Ferguson, Managing Vice President, Advertising and Sponsorships at Capital One. “Dave Matthews Band continues to produce chart topping music and, with deep roots in the South, is sure to be a big crowd pleaser in Atlanta. Sting is well-known around the world for his numerous hits and his enduring influence on popular music. It doesn’t get any bigger than this.”

Vermont-based Grace Potter & The Nocturnals has had a solid release with last year’s The Lion The Beast The Beat, and is coming back to the U.S. after spending much of March on concert dates in Europe and Australia. After their appearance in Atlanta and a date on April 9 in Evans, GA, near Augusta, the group begins a summer road tour in late May in Austin.

Saturday night’s headliners Muse, are in the midst of an American concert swing that includes March dates in Dallas, Phoenix and Las Vegas, along with follow-up April dates in Toronto. Muse’s latest CD, The 2nd Law, was released late last year to critical and chart-topping praise all over the world. The newest single from that album, Supremacy, was released on February 25.

Flo Rida has already picked up a Peoples Choice Award nomination as favorite hip-hop artist, an NRJ Music Award nomination as international male artist of the year and a Grammy win for best collaboration for Wild Ones, and the year is still very young.

Atlanta’s own Ludacris is getting ready to release his new album, Ludaversal during the first quarter of 2013.
