Michelle Obama shocked everyone at the Oscars when she made a special appearance to present the Oscar for best picture to Ben Affleck for his film “Argo.”
The First Lady’s Oscars presentation only made sense once you think about it. Many of Hollywood’s biggest stars campaigned extremely heavily for the President during both elections.
Of course, political campaigning isn’t anything new but it was definitely much more prevalent for Barack Obama than many other presidents.
Last night the supposed Best Picture presenter, Jack Nicholson, announced that he would be having a little help to reveal who had the best film at the Oscars. Suddenly, the Firs Lady appeared on the giant screen looking simply stunning.
As if her appearance wasn’t enough of a grand surprise for everyone in the Los Angeles’ Dolby Theater and people at home watching, she even delivered a beautiful speech that matched the many emotionally driven speeches her husband has become so famous for.
“[These films] taught us that love can beat all odds. They reminded us that we can overcome any obstacle if we dig deep enough and fight hard enough and find the courage within ourselves,” the FLOTUS said with her hair pulled back, flaunting her new bangs.
She put a lot of the red carpet looks to shame with her own dazzling silver gown that showed off why she is such a great First Lady to be pushing so many fitness movements.
She went on to explain that “our children learn to open their imagination and dream just a little bigger and to strive every day to reach those dreams” all thanks to the power of film.
Having the First Lady present the award also helped remind audiences how amazing it was the Argo walked away with the award for Best Picture although it hadn’t even received a nomination for Best Director.
Argo is only the fourth film in Oscars history to do that.
Quvenzhane Wallis Next Big Role: Casted to Play Annie in Upcoming Remake
Whether it’s on the red carpet or on the big screen we simply can not get enough of Quvenzhane Wallis, and after the latest “Annie” casting decision we are about to get even more of the 9-year-old star.
The “Annie” remake was originally supposed to feature Willow Smith as the star actress – which is only to be expected since Will and Jada Pinkett Smith are producing the film.
We were very underwhelmed by the decision and found a hard time picturing Willow Smith as Annie, but the cinema gods smiled down on us when the famous couple’s daughter dropped out of the lead role.
Columbia Pictures just announced that it will indeed by the Oscar-nominated “Beasts of the Southern Wild” actress who will take the role of Annie.
This time we’ll even get to see some of her singing and dancing talents in the new movie where she will get to meet some more mega stars like Jay-Z, who created new music specifically for the remake.
The hip hop mogul will also be teaming up with Jay Brown and Ty Ty Smith to co-produce the new “Annie.”
Hannah Minghella, the president of Columbia Pictures, revealed why they decided to pick the new actress for the big part (although we can already see why).
“With the recent Academy Award nomination and critical acclaim, Quvenzhane Wallis is a true star, and we believe her portrayal as Annie will make her a true worldwide star,” she said. “She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can’t wait for audiences to further discover her.”
We’re beyond excited! Wallis is definitely well on her way to an exciting career – thank goodness Disney didn’t discover her first.
