First Lady Michelle Obama is speaking out–about her haircut. In January, the First Lady debuted a new look for her 49th birthday. The shoulder length, cropped look with bangs had the internet buzzing.
This week, Mrs. Obama will be on The Rachael Ray Show to discuss the hair cut, her “midlife crisis,” and more with the famed chef and talk show host.
Mrs. Obama says the cut was inspired by a desire to try something new. “This is my midlife crisis, the bangs,” she joked on in a preview clip. “I couldn’t get a sports car. They won’t let me bungee-jump. So instead, I cut my bangs.”
Also, with the whirlwind last four years and recent campaign, the First Lady wanted something that was just hers. “I can do this,” she told Ray, smiling and gesturing to her new cut. “This is all mine.”
The President is definitely a fan. “To address the most significant event of the weekend, I love her bangs,” Obama said to USA Today, shortly after she cut them. “She looks good. She always looks good.”
Mrs. Obama was also on the talk show to address her continued crusade against childhood obesity. Michelle has recuited Rachael for her “Get Fit” campaign and the two are working to improve school lunches across the country.
This has been a big week for Mrs. Obama. C-SPAN just announced a new series that will highlight the impact of American first ladies on the nation. “First Ladies: Influence & Image,” produced jointly by C-SPAN and the White House Historical Association, will air over the course of two years in a succession of 90 minute episodes.
The series will profile each first lady in chronological order, starting with Martha Washington on February 25 and ending with Michelle Obama on February 10, 2014.
C-SPAN Executive Producer Mark Farkas describes the original series as a “chance to walk in the shoes of the first ladies” and contemplate their legacy on American politics, culture and history.
Perhaps Mrs. Obama’s “mid-life crisis” will be featured in her episode.
Rachael Ray’s interview with Michelle Obama will air Wednesday.
