Beyonce, Rihanna Enjoy Big Weekend Debuts

Beyonce and Rihanna enjoyed high profile premieres outside of the music industry over the weekend, with Ms. Knowles debuting her self-directed and produced documentary Life Is But a Dream on HBO, and Rihanna launching her clothing line in Britain. Coming off her high profile Super Bowl performance the week before, Beyonce continues to capitalize on her unmatched popularity. She sat down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey for the OWN network show Next Chapter, to discuss how motherhood and marriage have changed her life.

“My daughter introduced me to myself,” Beyonce said during the program, which aired on Saturday before her documentary. “Motherhood made everything make sense.” Her daughter Blue Ivy Carter is 13 months old, but the 31-year-old mother has managed to keep her out of the spotlight with the help of husband Jay-Z. She also admitted that she is interested in having another child, telling Oprah to check back with her after her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour.

Rihanna was doing some globetrotting of her own over the weekend, finding her way to London Fashion Week for the launch of her clothing line. The artist collaborated with British high-street retailer River Island to create designs that emulate her own sense of style. British fashion executives welcomed the new line, believing that the Rihanna’s popularity would bring the line to large audiences.

“Celebrity dressing drives a large part of the industry. If celebrities are wearing it, there is confidence that you and I will want to wear those clothes as well,” Caroline Rush, chief executive of the British Fashion Council, said, according to Reuters.

Earlier in the week, a night club decided that allowing both Chris Brown and Drake in on the same night was more they could handle, choosing to turn away Drake at the door. The two stars were accused of fighting over Rihanna during a summer night club brawl, with members of both entourages throwing bottles across the venue. Managers at Playhouse in Hollywood decided they would rather avoid a repeat of the event, and Drake respected their choice and left without incident, according to TMZ.
