Tony Award-winning actress and legendary R&B singer Melba Moore will lead a cast in the Atlanta production of playwright Lolita Snipes’ musical comedy, Good God A’Mighty! at the 14th Street Playhouse.
Most fans know Moore for her long music career, but her first stage was the theater. She began her acting on Broadway in the classic musical Hair. She starred in Purlie and earned a Tony Award for her portrayal as Lutiebelle. She appeared with the iconic Eartha Kitt in the hit musical Timbuktu! And she made history as the first African-American to perform in the role of Fantine on Broadway in the acclaimed musical, Les Miserables.
The Atlanta play is a comedic look at black church goings-on when a young minister from New York moves Down South to take over an old-style church. There is an inevitable clash of cultures as the new pastor has to adjust to his congregation and they to him.
Good God A’Mighty! run Feb. 14-24th.
The 14th Street Playhouse is located at 173 14th Street, at the corner of 14th Street and Juniper, across from the W Midtown hotel.
