Kim Kardashian’s Middle Eastern Tour Sparks Protests

Despite being a beacon for all things American, Kim Kardashian has made Middle Eastern affairs her new hobby. The reality TV star has made trips to Kuwait and Bahrain for the opening of new Millions of Milkshakes chain stores. Her December 1 visit to the island nation of Bahrain sparked fierce protests, forcing riot police to use tear gas to disperse a crowd of more than 50 Islamic citizens who referred to the visiting American as a porn star. Despite the less than warm reception, Kardashian took to Twitter to express her love for the small country, sharing photos of herself in the desert and holding camel’s milk.

“Thanks Sheikh Khalifa for your amazing hospitality. I’m in love with The Kingdom of Bahrain” she posted on Saturday. “Thanks @sheerazhasan and Paresh A Shah for an amazing trip to The Kingdom of Bahrain and Kuwait. We did it!!! sheerazinc.com

Kim’s visit followed controversial tweets she posted regarding the Gaza Crisis in November. Social media users attacked the 32-year-old starlet for both her “praying for Israel” and “praying for Palestine” comments, leading to a public apology on her blog after deleting the tweets.

“I sent out two tweets about saying prayers for the people in Palestine and Israel and after hearing from my followers, I decided to take down the tweets because I realized that some people were offended and hurt by what I said, and for that I apologize,” she wrote. “There are countless innocent people involved who didn’t choose this, and I pray for all of them and also for a resolution. I also pray for all the other people around the world who are caught in similar crossfires.”

Despite tweeting that she planned to “set the record straight” with her trip to Bahrain, Kim seemingly ignored an open invitation from the Bahrain Center for Human Rights to visit with leaders during the trip. Instead she stuck to what she’s familiar with, appearing in front of fans that paid more than $1,000 a ticket to see her.
