Music Video Roundup: Nicki Minaj ‘Va Va Voom’, Miley Cyrus ‘Decisions’

Pop music saw the release of several much-hyped music videos this week, most notably Nicki Minaj’s explosive  ‘Va Va Voom’ and Miley Cyrus and Borgore’s collaboration ‘Decisions’ featuring porn star Jessie Andrews.

‘Va Va Voom’  is set in the enchanted forest of a fairy tale,  featuring Minaj as a myriad of characters, first as an innocent maiden, then a fairy godmother and finally an evil queen. The innocent character meets her Prince Charming, but goes into a coma. While the young maiden sleeps, the evil queen seduces Charming. Blinding lights and jarring camera shifts give the fairy tale an electronica twist as Minaj switches between personas.

Minaj seems most comfortable as the evil queen in a tight, black dress with lace and glitter embellishments. While the theme doesn’t connect much with the song’s lyrics, perhaps the evil queen is a nod to Minaj’s current battle with fellow American Idol judge Mariah Carey.

Rumors of a feud between the show’s newest judges have been rumbling since Minaj and Carey signed their contracts, but gained momentum when TMZ posted a video from the Charlotte, North Carolina auditions. In the leaked clip, Minaj claims she’s done with Carey’s “highness” and appears to cuss the diva out.

One person who is a Minaj fan, however, is Miley Cyrus. In addition to releasing her video for ‘Decisions’ this week, Cyrus also dressed as Nicki Minaj for Halloween.

‘Decisions’ is far less conceptual than ‘Va Va Voom’, offering standard scenes of Cyrus, real-life fiance Liam Hemsworth and porn star Jessie Andrews partying in Los Angeles.

Debuting her new, cropped hairdo, Cyrus emerges onscreen out of a cake pushed by producer Borgore, who is also featured vocally in the song. Cyrus walks through the party, makes out with Hemsworth (wearing a unicorn mask), then engages in a food fight. The track itself is fairly low key, which goes along with the video.

Another video to drop this week is Ludacris’s ‘Representin’ featuring Kelly Rowland. The video switches between scenes of the pair in the recording studio, in the car, and by the pool.

Ludacris has a busy week, as his collaboration with Swizz Beatz and Chris Brown, ‘Everybody Birthday’ is set to premiere Sunday, November 4th on MTV.  ‘Everybody Birthday’ was shot in Cannes, and ranks among the most anticipated releases of the month.
