Border patrol police in Texas stopped and raided hip hop artist Nelly’s tour bus, uncovering large amounts of drugs and a loaded gun. Only one person, Brian Keith Jones, was arrested.
Six passengers were on board when the vehicle was flagged at a checkpoint at Sierra Blanca Wednesday night. Police boarded the bus and found significant quantities of marijuana, heroin and a loaded .45 caliber pistol, according to TMZ.
More specifically, police uncovered 36 small baggies of heroin (totaling .64 ounces) and more than 10 pounds of marijuana inside a large green duffel bag (an amount roughly the size of a large bed pillow. Local authorities told the site that the bus search was conducted after a police dog detected the presence of drugs.
The passengers were detained for an undetermined amount of time. In the end, Jones was the only one hauled off to jail. He claimed all the illegal items were his.
Nelly and the remained of his traveling partners were allowed to roll on.
Coincidentally enough, the Sierra Blanca checkpoint has been in the news several times before the Nelly tour bus raid, thanks to a slew of celebrities who’ve passed through with illegal substances on board. It is the same spot where Willie Nelson, Armie Hammer, Snoop Dogg and, most recently, Fiona Apple were arrested for drug possession.
With that recent history, you would think Nelly would know to not roll through there “loaded” as the bus allegedly was. But then, that would be asking too much, wouldn’t it?
Here is the police report:
“On October 10, 2012 at approximately 8 pm., a 2007 Black Prevost Tour Bus that records later would reveal … belonged to Cornell Iral Haynes, a.k.a Nelly … [was stopped and searched while] … traveling eastbound on I-10.
“Upon entering the bus the canine alerted to a cardboard box. A further search produced a small plastic container containing marijuana, and (36) very small Ziploc bags containing Heroin and a loaded .45 cal pistol.
“At that time all seven occupants of the vehicle were detained and read their Miranda Warning Rights. Upon further inspection of the canine alerted to an outside lower compartment of the vehicle … [and] … agents found a large green-duffle bag containing (9) vacuum sealed bags containing marijuana. (Total weight of the marijuana seized was 10.4 lbs and weight of the Heroin was a total of .64 ounces)
“At that time Brian Keith Jones freely admitted that the controlled substances along with the weapon belonged to him and he was placed under arrest by U.S. Border Patrol agents and detained. The vehicle and all subjects except for Jones were released from the checkpoint and allowed to travel with no further incident.”
