Robin Roberts Up and Cheerful After Medical Isolation

Good Morning America host Robin Roberts posted her first picture post-surgery to Twitter on Thursday, complementing fans with a blog post detailing her condition. After being placed in medical isolation earlier in the week, Roberts posed alongside friends Josh Elliot and Sam Champion, GMA meteorologist in good spirits. Roberts, 51, has been undergoing treatment for myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a rare blood disorder.

“Today is what I like to call “’hankful Thursday, aka Friday Eve.’ I have been in the hospital 25 days now. My bone marrow transplant took place exactly two weeks ago,” Roberts wrote in her blog. “The only numbers that matter are my blood counts and they are … GREAT! My sister Sally-Ann’s stem cells apparently feel right at home in my body – an answer to so many prayers.”

Roberts began her leave from GMA on September 1, after revealing her diagnosis during the summer. She praised the care of her “doctors and rock star nurses.,” but admitted that chemotherapy treatments were still restricting hurting her appetite and that she was experiencing extreme pain. Still, Roberts remained positive in her post.

“I am hopeful that I MAY be well enough to continue my recovery at home next week and my sisters plan to come back to NYC for that milestone in my journey,” she wrote. “I truly FEEL and thank you for your love, prayers and good wishes. And I return it to you tenfold. Light Love Power Presence. XO.”
