We know we spend a lot of time kvelling over a certain Beyoncé, but let us NOT forget that we have a stunning soul-pop powerhouse in her younger sister, Solange Knowles. Not only does the 26-year-old model/singer/DJ have a serious ear for a catchy pop song (see:”Sandcastle Disco,” and “Flying Overseas” with Theophilus London), but we are a teensy bit obsessed with following Solange’s eclectic personal style and creeping on her family pictures via various social media services. And now we’re obsessed with Solange’s brand-new video for her song “Losing You
Directed by Melina Matsoukas, the super-stylish video was filmed in South Africa and takes a cinematic, yet nonchalant tone that we’re certain only Solange could pull off. Opening to scenes of everyday life in a slightly run down, yet charming South African neighborhood, we see Solange dancing in a variety of loudly-patterned pieces (style isn’t exactly our forte, but WOW, we are blown away by this series of looks). As the clip continues, Solange is seen dancing in the street with an entourage of absurdly hip friends, reclining on a pile of mattresses (you had to be there), being wheeled down the street on a bicycle, hangin’ out on some bleachers, and just generally messing around with her fantastically stylish cohorts (all of which culminates in a hand-in-hand dive into a giant pool). Sounds like a pretty great day to us! All the while, she’s delicately singing, “I’m not the one that you should be making your enemy/ Tell me the truth, boy, am I losing you for good?” over a series of soft synths, cleverly-embedded samples, and handclappy rhythms. Now all we want to know is, how can we become friends with Solange?? And will she please re-arrange our closets?!
