Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill may have both consented to having an intimate relationship while Wyclef was still married, but according to the Fugees founder, it was Lauryn’s lies about the paternity of her child that ruined the hip hop trio for good in 1997.
According to recently released excerpts from Wyclef’s tell all “Purpose,” Lauryn did the unforgivable when she misled him into thinking he was the father of her child.
“In that moment something died between us,” the 42-year-old Haitian rapper wrote. “I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that.”
For this reason, Jean claimed he simply couldn’t be in the group with Hill any longer.
“She could no longer be my muse… Our love spell was broken,” He continued.
Wyclef isn’t the only man speaking up about his relationship with L Boogie, however.
The father of five of Hill’s children, Rohan Marley, has finally decided to tell his side of the break up with the former Fugees member.
“As a man, there are certain things I don’t accept,” Bob Marley’s son told The Voice, A UK publication. “And it just so happened that I didn’t accept certain things [in the relationship]. It doesn’t mean she’s a bad person, or I’m a bad person, it just didn’t work out.”
The high profile couple broke up about a year ago, also due to paternity issues, after Hill had a child by another man.
Earlier this year, the 37-year-old singer-songwriter and rapper also ran into trouble with the IRS after she plead guilty to evading federal taxes on the $1.8 million she earned between 2005 and 2007 on top of another $446,386 in taxes she failed to pay in her home state of New Jersey.
The mother of six is currently out on bail, but faces jail time of up to three years if convicted during her trial in November.
