Randy Jackson Returns As American Idol Judge, Simon Cowell Praises Decision

Randy Jackson is back at the judging table of American Idol and his former co-judge and friend Simon Cowell applauds the decision. No new salary details have leaked in the new deal. It was previously believed that Jackson’s salary was just under $10 million but that number has never been verified – compared to others we sincerely hope he’s getting a lot more.

Ever since judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler announced their exit, Randy’s position with the longstanding talent competition was in question. It appeared after Fox execs confirmed Grammy-Award winning artist Mariah Carey as one of the replacements that Jackson would be relegated to a mentor role, however last week it was confirmed he was out altogether.

In the midst of the back and fourth entertainers like Kanye West, Joe Jonas, Enrique Iglesias, Nicki Minaj and several others were thrown in the mix as possible replacements. Nicki’s name seems to be the one holding on the strongest thus far – but what would happen to Randy?

Sources say that a deal with Jackson closed rather quickly after talks broke off with Enrique Iglesias. The fourth seat reportedly will be filled by Australian country singer Keith Urban. Fox is expected to unveil its four-judge panel this week.

“Just heard Randy is back on Idol,” former Idol judge Simon Cowell tweeted tonight. “Right decision.” The ex-Idol judge went on to X Factor where’s yet to succeed to surpassing Idol.

What do you think of the new (possible) American Idol lineup: Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson?
