Although Alicia Keys never truly went away, she is certainly making a comeback as she takes on the role of designing sneakers for Reeboks and prepares to release her first new album since 2009.
In an interview with People, Keys confessed her love of Reebok’s 5411 sneakers, so getting the opportunity to create her own sneakers for Reebok was nothing short of a dream come true.
“I’ve been a fan forever, since I was a little girl – that’s been my flow, my style,” Keys told People.
Her love for the sneakers even spilled over into her love for music when she customized a pair of the 5411’s for the “If I Ain’t Got You” music video.
The Grammy Award winning R&B crooner said she had always been thinking about bringing the shoes back into her style and her husband, Swizz Beats, suddenly provided her with the perfect opportunity.
“My husband works closely with Reebok – and I just loved how they’re bringing back the brand in such an incredible way,” Alicia Keys said.
Keys will be designing her own line of Reebok’s 5411’s, Freestyle Double Bubble, Classic Nylon Slim, and Princess sneakers.
“It was everything I dreamed about growing up, and a style of shoe I connected to as a teen,” the soulful singer said.
As if the opportunity to redesign her favorite childhood sneakers wasn’t enough, Keys was able to debut the new line of sneakers and a single off her new album all in the same night.
Reebok premiered the new campaign video for the sneakers designed by Keys Thursday night during the MTV Video Music Awards. In the same night, Alicia Keys took to the stage to perform the title track from her latest album “Girl on Fire.”
“I feel very different, I feel like even the writing style and the way that I’ve been able to access how I feel has gone to a different place and I feel it’s even more raw,” she confessed to Rolling Stone on the red carpet of the VMAs.
With over 190 nominations for her music since the start of her career and 104 victories under her belt, the new album set to release on November 27, is sure to be yet another success for the soulful, down to earth mother and role model for women everywhere.
