Rihanna and Chris Brown Kiss at MTV VMAs!

Rihanna and Chris Brown – In front of the whole world, Rihanna kissed Chris Brown on the lips last night at the MTV Video Music Awards.

If you don’t believe it, just go down to the videotaped evidence below.

Rihanna was strolling through the crowd in her flowing white dress when she spotted Breezy. She rolled straight toward him and he stood up in anticipation of her greeting. They enjoyed a brief kiss on the lips and then they hugged. Now it’s true that Rihanna didn’t linger; she moved on to hug the guy who was sitting next to Brown. But she didn’t give that guy a kiss. And besides, that guy wasn’t arrested for beating in her face with his fists, so a hug for him was not of consequence.

We knew that there was always the possibility of these public displays of affection between the two because Rihanna told Oprah that she still loved him and he still loves her. These were her exact words when she sat down on “Oprah’s Next Chapter”: “We love each other and we probably always will,” she said in the interview that took place in her native land of Barbados. “And that’s not anything that we’re gonna try to change. It’s not something you can shut off if you’ve ever been in love.”

And after a flood of denials, Rihanna also admitted to Oprah that they did indeed reunite in St. Tropez.

“It’s awkward because I still love him,” she said of seeing Brown again. “My stomach drops, and I have to maintain this poker face and not let it get to the outer part of me.”

When Winfrey asked if Brown was a true love her for her, Rihanna responded, “Absolutely. I think that he was the love of my life. He was my first love and I see that he loved me the same way.”

It’s one thing to hook up on a private yacht in St. Tropez under the dark of night, another to kiss each other on the lips at one of the most-watched award shows in the world. We won’t get into that whole role model debate here—the one where we wring our hands about the message she’s sending to all the little girls watching her show such love for a man who beat her—but it’s still a little unsettling to see such public evidence of her acceptance of this man.

Rihanna is free to live her life as she wishes, of course, but sometimes it’s a bit hard to watch her do it.
