Just before X Factor and The Voice are set to air their season premieres, the rivalry between the two music competition shows has reached fever pitch.
In a move apparently aimed at sabotaging the The X Factor’s September 12th Season 2 opener, NBC announced it would air a special Wednesday installment of The Voice next week.
Following the announcement, X Factor creator, Simon Cowell, responded with some harsh words, citing a “gentleman’s agreement” between programs. Cowell slammed The Voice, calling the move “cynical, cold-hearted” and an “unprofessional way of doing business.”
The music producer/judge vented to TMZ, saying the decision was a “dirty” last second trick by NBC. Cowell went on to voice that Britney Spears will be livid over NBC’s strategic programming choice.
“Britney’s not going to appreciate the fact that Christina – who has been a bit of a rival – isn’t allowing Britney to have a night of her own.”
Simon continued to cook the beef between The Voice and The X Factor suggesting that audiences will be passing up Christina Aguilera for Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.
“The reason they’ve done this is they don’t want people to see X Factor because they’ve heard how good the series is. They don’t want their audience to see Britney Spears. They don’t want their audience to see Demi Lovato.”
Wow! Who ever thought things can get so intense between two music competition shows?
