Jill Scott is covering the September issue of Essence displaying her short-cropped natural hair. (Side note: Rihanna just debut her short hairstyle today albeit not natural 🙂 )
The Philadelphia born singer has been known in the industry for her gorgeous natural coils but with the new wave of a natural hair movement, Jill has some words on where she stands.
“This is the simplest form of myself. I look in the mirror and it’s like, ‘Hey, there you go. What’s up, girl?’ For me, hair is an accoutrement. Hair is jewelry. It’s an accessory. Tomorrow I may want a wig down to my butt and I’m gonna rock it, and the next day I may want a big Afro and I’m gonna rock that too…”
This is the shortest we’ve seen Jill’s hair and she looks absolutely gorgeous! According to TheYBF, the singer was forced to issue and ultimatum to Essence editors to rock her natural do on the cover. Meanwhile other natural ambassadors – willingly or unwillingly like Solange Knowles echoes a similar sentiment to Jill….that their hair natural or not is merely a style.
“My hair is not very important to me….so i don’t encourage it to be important to you.”
