“Love him, hate him, you don’t know him!“
Dinesh D‘Souza’s 2016: Obama’s America supposedly exposes some scary things about President Barack Obama’s past and this is helping the film make some significant strides at the box office.
After an impressive opening in 61 theaters, the film has expanded onto 169 screens last weekend and grossed a total of $2 million. This positions the anti-obama movie as the 2nd best performing documentary of 2012, twelfth on the list of highest grossing political documentaries of all time, and the 2nd highest grossing conservative documentary after Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed ($7.7 million).
This is a major feat for a film that hasn’t even been shown in a lot of theaters yet. However, by Friday, 1,075 theaters across the country will be showing the documentary in an aggressive expansion that leads up to the Aug. 27 opening of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.
2016: Obama’s America follows D’Souza on a journey to uncover all the things in President Obama’s past that made him into what could be summarized as an “angry black man.” D’Souza argues how Obama’s father and mother raised him to be anti-colonial and communist and it’s their influence that informs his policies that are going make the United States a very scary place if Obama wins a second term in 2012.

Obama’s America is gaining traction in big cities like Sacramento, Atlanta, Greenville, N.C., Dallas, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Honolulu, Tampa, and surprisingly super liberal New York City.
Pamela McClintock of The Hollywood Reporter wrote:
Some in Hollywood were stumped by the amount of business the documentary did at the Regal Union Square Stadium 14 in lower Manhattan, situated in a liberal neighborhood where films from the likes of Moore have done huge business.
Apparantly there is something in this documentary that is grabbing the attention of the moviegoing audience. Will you be going to check it out?
