Kanye West is ready to take the next step with current girlfriend Kim Kardashian but there is one thing that stands in the way: she is still legally married to Brooklyn Nets forward Kris Humphries.
According to a report by radaronline.com, Kanye has asked a private jeweler to create an engagement ring for Kim by using diamonds and rubies from his late mom’s personal jewelry collection. Sources say that Kanye plans to propose to the reality TV star once her divorce is finalized.
“Kanye picked out some of Donda’s most expensive pieces, including some diamond earrings and a ruby ring,” the source close to Kanye told radar.
“Donda was such an important person in Kanye’s life, he thought the world of her and was devastated when she died. So, he kept all her jewelry as keepsakes—a lot of the pieces were items he bought over the years after he made it as a hip-hop star.”
Kanye’s mother passed away in November 2007. West, a retired professor and former chairwoman of the Chicago State University English department, was 58 and the CEO of West Brands LLC, as well as the co-founder of the Kanye West Foundation, which they developed in 2005 to combat the dropout problem in high schools. In May 2007, she released the book Raising Kanye: Life Lessons from the Mother of a Hip-Hop Superstar
While Kanye and Kim have become favorites of the paparazzi, there are some inside Kanye’s camp who don’t think Kim deserves the ring. “His friends think it’s a terrible idea and are advising him not to give Kim the ring. Because it’s a gift, it would be difficult for Kanye to ask for it back if they ever split up,” a source said.
There also seems to be a problem with how the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star makes her money.
“They’ve also reminded him that Kim is not somebody who works hard for her money. She makes millions doing reality shows and selling her image, and Donda’s jewelry shouldn’t be part of that image.”
Whenever they do decide to wed, Kanye already has two places in mind: his hometown of Chicago and Oklahoma.
Yes, Oklahoma.
“Oklahoma is his personal choice because his mother’s grave is there—and he wants her at his wedding in spirit,” the source said.
