Before she was Young Money’s leading lady Nicki Minaj came to Atlanta in order to take her music career to the next level. Sunday night when her “Pink Friday” tour rolled into town at the Fox Theater the hottest female rapper in the game made sure to put on a show.
Minaj began her performance with a medley of recent hits like “Beez in the Trap” with opening act 2 Chainz and her club banger “Dance (A**).” Minaj rocked the crowd with her usual enthusiasm, but it was her star-studded guest list that made the show memorable.
First up was local hip hop legend Young Jeezy, who rocked the crowd with his latest single off Thug Motivation 103 “Supa Freak.” Halfway through the concert, Minaj began to talk about vocalists who influenced her. As she went on, R&B singer Monica stepped to the stage and performed “Why I Love You So Much.”
Up next was Bobby V, who broke into his smash debut single “Slow Down” as Minaj went off for one of her many costume swaps. The south Jamaica, Queens, native began to tell the crowd about how Gucci Mane embraced her and helped launch her career to the heights where it is now.
Fellow Bricksquad member Waka Flocka Flame joined Minaj on stage to perform his hit single “Round of Applause” and gave the crowd a bit of insight on their struggle to claim success. “We’ve come a long way from roaches to Rolexes,” he said.
T.I. and Lil Scrappy were the final surprises for the night, and Minaj promised the crowd, “No other place got this many surprises.” The crowd got one surprise they may not have liked, as one of Minaj’s costume changes ran over the allotted time, forcing her DJ to entertain the crowd.
Whether you like her or not, one thing is for certain: Nicki Minaj knows how to put on a show.
