Disney previews new Oz: The Great And Powerful trailer at Comic-Con 2012

While presenting its upcoming films on the first day of Comic Con 2012, Disney released a brand new sneak peak of Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great And Powerful.

The animated film is described as a prequel to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which follows how the Wizard, played by James Franco, made his way to Oz and ended up becoming the ruler of the Emerald City.

In Oz: The Great And Powerful trailer, things start out using a black-and-white 4:3 screen to depict the Wizards world before transitioning into the land of Oz. His hot-air balloon is swooped up in a tornado, similar to the one that got Dorthy. After he ends up in Oz, the screen transitions into a brilliant technicolor widescreen.

From there, the clip shows glimpses of the three witches, played by Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, and Rachel Weisz. Strange creatures such as razor-toothed pixies, flying monkeys, moving china dolls, and aggressive mutant plants, also  made an appearance in the trailer.

“It’s different than anything I’ve ever done,” Raimi told the audience. “I’ve never done a family picture, but I loved the screenplay.”

Oz: The Great And Powerful. is expected to hit theaters in March 2013. Check out the trailer below:
