Nia Long express her reluctance to marry Ime Udoka in Essence.
First, Nia Long, 41, looks absolutely gorgeous on the cover of Essence Magazine’s July issue. The mother of two poses with her eldest son, 10-year old Massai from a previous relationship and her newest bundle Kez Sunday whom she welcomed with professional basketball player Ime Udoka. Nia and Ime are currently in a relationship.
Despite the beautiful cover questions are being raised about Essence’s choice of caption, “Single, Satisfied and Raising Her Boys” and Nia stance on marriage.
In the issue Nia expresses her lack of confidence in marriage telling the magazine she’s “never seen a marriage work”. Adding that she’s not completely against the idea, “I’m not saying I’ll never do it,” but “it’s just not where we are as a family.”
Prior to the Essence cover which some argue glamorizes single parenting Nia’s candidness on the marriage issue has brought on criticism,
“I’ll be at home with my man, having a perfectly loving time, and I’ll see all these comments on some site about how wrong I am for not being married. I don’t feel less loved or loving because I’m not married.”
Another question is Kez’s father Ime, is his role as an active father who’s currently in a relationship with Nia minimized?
