Conservative Florida Congressman Allen West knows how to get headlines. This time he purposely stepped onto the third rail of black political commentary in the U.S., telling a crowd at Florida’s Port St. Lucie Civic Center that Obama wants Americans to “be his slave.”
During a rally, West told the audience, “He does not want you to have the self-esteem of getting up and earning, and having that title of American. He’d rather you be his slave.”
West’s statement was so outrageous that his white Republican primary opponent, Martin County Sheriff Bob Crowder, took offense.
“I am offended by some of the things he says and does,” Crowder said.
Of course West has gone after Obama before. Speaking about Obama’s new immigration policy last month, West said that the president showed he doesn’t care about black people by granting de facto amnesty to as many as 800,000 illegal immigrant foreigners and probably taking jobs away from black Americans.
