Mel Gibson’s Latest Rant Scares Step-Mother

Mel Gibson, who in recent years has had drunken racially charged rants recorded, most recently went off so badly that his step mother seeks a restraining order against him for fear he could harm her.

Teddy Joye Hicks Gibson, 78, has been married to Gibson’s father Hutton since 2001, but the 93-year-old filed for divorce earlier this month, citing irreconciliable differences.

Teddy Gibson has been at odds with the actor and one of his sisters over the experimental treatments they want their father to undergo for unspecified ailments, according to court documents. Gibson has screamed at her on several occasions, at one point “so close that I could feel his spit hitting my face,” she claims in the papers.

Teddy Gibson claims that Mel Gibson and his sister manipulated his father into filing for divorce — as a strict Catholic, Hutton Gibson would never agree to a divorce, she says in the court papers — and that the actor is trying to kick her out of her home, which is owned by a charity the actor controls.

A judge did not issue the restraining order, but scheduled a full hearing into the matter next month.
