Bethenny Frankel stumbled on an alleged taboo within the black community on her new talk show ‘Bethenny’ recently – Sex. According to Bethenny’s guest, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss the black community isn’t keen on discussing sex much less sex toys.
“Well the crazy thing is I didn’t try to make it a race issue. I think because I’m Black obviously, I had a lot of people come up to me and say ‘Did you realize you’re the face of Black women being more liberated and talking about sex,’ and I didn’t realize that until now,” Kandi explained.
“In our community, with that Black community, it is very hush hush to talk about sex. Everything is hush hush like you can’t talk about that.”
If that indeed was the case Kandi is certainly doing her share to squelch that. When not talking about sex Bethenny opened up about her miscarriage she suffered with husband Jason Hoppy,
“I’ve honestly had women that I’ve been friends with in the past [tell me] they had a miscarriage,” she explains. “And I kind of didn’t really understand, and I’d say, ‘I’m so sorry that’s terrible.’ But not until you really go through it, do you understand what it means. In your head, it’s a person that could never be. You blame yourself as a woman.
“It was really just something that women were so supportive [about] and it was great to kind of go through that with other women,” she continues. “It’s not really about me and my experience it’s just kind of about being able to talk about it and women knowing that it’s so common and it’s not their fault.”
Bethenny still remains thankful she has her 2-year old daughter Bryn. “I’m lucky to have my first child.”
