Universal has already given the sequel to Snow White And The Huntsman the greenlight, even as the movie is still playing in theaters, according to a Deadline report.
The studio has made the initial move to franchise the film by recruiting Spiderman writer David Koepp to write the sequel script. Rupert Sanders is also in talks with the studio about returning to direct the next film, after making his feature directing debut on the first one.
Many expected Snow White And The Huntsman to under-perform, but to Universal’s delight, the fantasy film brought in $56 million in the opening weekend and has currently grossed $118 million worldwide.
The current installment of the film received negative reviews for being poorly put together and rushed, which was caused by Relativity Media pushing their own version of Snow White, Mirror Mirror. In order to keep their investment relevant, Universal hurried to get out Snow White And The Huntsman. Now that there is no time pressure, the second installment should have a chance to be handled more carefully.
