This Memorial Day weekend in Atlanta promises to be a hot time all around. Grills will be blazing across the city with delectable scent of barbecue smoke wafting from every backyard, driveway and terrace balcony. Jazz will be heating up Piedmont Park for the 35th annual Atlanta Jazz Festival, the largest free jazz festival in the country. And down on Auburn Avenue, the climate will feel downright tropical as the Atlanta Caribbean Carnival will celebrate its 24th year.
Islands nations from throughout the Caribbean will have representation at activities that are scheduled throughout the Memorial Day weekend at various venues both downtown and on Atlanta’s east side.
The organizer of the event is the Atlanta Caribbean Carnival Bandleaders Association (ACCBA) comprised of the leaders of various mas (masquerade) bands who collectively work to maintain the quality and integrity of the event.
The official parade begins Saturday, May 26th at noon, with the route starting at the West Peachtree/Civic Center MARTA Station, proceeding south on Peachtree to Auburn and then heading east on John Wesley Dobbs, then south on Jesse Hill Drive and finally conclude at the Festival Village located at Auburn and Fort St.
