Ever since the departure of Stacey Dash from VH1’s popular Single Ladies was announced, fans of the show have wondered if her split had anything to do with the reported beef between Dash and co-star LisaRaye. In a cover story in this week’s JET magazine, LisaRaye said she doesn’t know why Dash didn’t want to be on the show any more, but she did confirm that there were verbal spats between the two of them.
The worst of the disputes came on the set one night when Dash was having a dispute with the director at 2 or 3 a.m. after a full day of taping. LisaRaye said she interjected to try to get the pair to move on, saying something like “Girl, if you don’t say what the director wants you to say…” Dash wasn’t pleased with the interruption and an argument ensued.
“It’s a bunch of women on the set,” LisaRaye explained. “We might all be on our damn period at any given point. I just wanted us to move forward. Then the argument took on a life of its own. The show decided to use it for publicity. They just ran with it.”
At any rate, LisaRaye said she was sorry to see Dash go because the two made a sexy duo.
“I thought Stacey and I were great together,” she said in the interview. “She was my age and we were working it. It was sex-symbol to sex-symbol. But she didn’t want to be there. I was disappointed about that.”
Dash was replaced on the show by Denise Vasi, who plays another successful businesswoman—similar to Dash’s character.
