Tony Lucca has been taking heat on The Voice from his fellow former Mickey Mouse Club Mouseketeer, Christina Aguilera, all season long.
He certainly made the matter worse when he recited “I got 99 problems but a b–– ain’t one” while covering Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” during his last performance on The Voice Monday night.
Aguilera may have even thought Lucca was directing the line at her?
“Your beautiful wife and your daughter and family are here tonight, and I just thought the lyrical connotation was a little derogatory towards women,” she told Lucca during her critique of his performance.
The tension, however, didn’t just start there. The ”I Hate Boys” singer was said to be so offended by Lucca’s decision to sing “99 Problems”, so much so that she got into a nasty confrontation with his coach Adam Levine before the show. Levine shut down all of Aguilera’s berating in defense of his pupil, and attempted to ease her contempt by wearing a “Team Xtina” shirt during the live broadcast. It didn’t appear to work.
Lucca insinuated that he thought Christina was out to get him, telling PEOPLE after the show, “I’m not going to let one person bring me down. Clearly that seems like part of her strategy.”
Is it possible that Christina Aguilera’s endless barrage of negativity against her fellow Mouseketeer will effect his chances of winning the competition? We will have to wait until tonight to find out. Either Tony Lucca, Juliet Simms, Chris Mann, or Jermaine Paul will be crowned winner when the two-hour finale of The Voice airs at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
