Samuel L. Jackson Slams ‘Avengers’ Critic On Twitter

Samuel L. Jackson is an actor who obviously reads reviews — and cares about them.

He took to twitter today to target New York Times critic A.O. Scott for negative comments in his review of Marvel’s The Avengers, in which Jackson stars as eye-patch-wearing S.H.I.E.L.D. commander Nick Fury.

While seeming to enjoy aspects of the film, Scott says its “failures are significant and dispiriting. The light, amusing bits cannot overcome the grinding, hectic emptiness, the bloated cynicism that is less a shortcoming of this particular film than a feature of the genre.”

Tweeted Jackson: “#Avengers fans,NY Times critic AO Scott needs a new job! Let’s help him find one! One he can ACTUALLY do!”

  1. Neil Godwin says:

Don't think Mr. J. should get too heated about a poor review for a film which is breaking box-office records! He'll go down in history as the "worst critic ever" or something. And he'll be ridiculed on QI until Dave stops broadcasting!

  2. Matt Crowe says:

What is Jackson talking about? Avengers was a fucking mess, it was full of plot holes, bizarre role reversals among characters and literally NO RESPECT for the source material. It's not a bad film, in fact it's an enjoyable action flick, but to get arsey because a critic rightfully highlighted some of the painfully notable issues with the Avengers is nothing short of stupid.

  3. Nick Brett says:

I'm with Jackson on this one, this was a superhero film not high art. It delivered rather well and deserves the queues at the cinema.

  4. Terry Igoe says:

The default setting of most film critics is to slag off A. Sci-fi B. Blockbuster Movies, they like to feel superior to the ordinary person who just wants a great night out watching an entertaining movie. Generally, they don't write for the ordinary person, they write primarily to satisfy there own ego and to impress other smug, elitist, individuals like themselves, so ignore them!

  5. I'm proud of Mr.Jackson for standing up for himself and his fellow Avengers. The Avengers was a excellant movie, very well made and highly entertaining. They have nothing to be ashamed about. A.O. Scott on the other hand does.

  6. I say good on Jackson, to hell with movie critucs, their never happy unless its a foreign film and their trying to sound better than they are.
