Ryan O’Neal has announced that he has recently been diagnosed with Stage 2 prostate cancer.
The Love Story actor released an optimistic statement through his publicist on Monday stating that the diagnosis comes as a shock, but his prognosis is good.
“Recently I was diagnosed with stage 2 prostate cancer,” said O’Neal. “Although I was shocked and stunned by the news, I feel fortunate that it was detected early and according to my extraordinary team of doctors the prognosis is positive for a full recovery.”
This is not the 70-year-old’s first cancer diagnosis. In the late 1990s, he survived treatment for myelogenous leukemia.
Ryan O’Neal is set to release a memoir about his romance with the late Farrah Fawcett, “Both of Us: My Life With Farrah,” which will be published on May 1st.
He is best known for his roles in the ABC nighttime soap opera Peyton Place, and films such as Paper Moon (1973), A Bridge Too Far (1977), and Love Story (1970), for which he received Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations as Best Actor. Since 2007, O’Neal has had recurring roles in the TV series Bones and 90210.
