Gillian Anderson Outs Herself About Lesbian Relationships

Before Gillian Anderson was investigating paranormal activity in the X-Files, she was investigating what it would be like to date girls.

Gillian, who was voted the sexiest woman in the world in 1996, admitted her lesbian flings began as a teenage girl after moving to the U.S. from London. The actress told Out Magazine that her high school dating life was very interesting. Besides dating girls, she had flings with older guys and punk rock drug addicts.

Anderson told Out Magazine:

“I was in a relationship with a girl for a long time when I was in high school, and then I was in a relationship with a punk rock drug addict. I’m old enough that I can talk about that. And then I was in a relationship with somebody who was way, way older than me.”

Interested in being a rebel, Anderson said she liked to date people that made her step out of her comfort zone. The X-Files actress told the popular gay magazine:

“Everything that that kind of anarchistic attitude brings — the inappropriate behavior it leads to — was how I chose to be in the world at that time, which was, you know, not what people did.”

Even though Anderson admits to having lesbian relationships, the actress said her homosexual encounters were more the exceptions to the rule.

“If I had thought I was 100% gay, would it have been a different experience for me? Would it have been a bigger deal if shame had been attached to it and all those things that become huge life-altering issues for youngsters in that situation? It’s possible that my attitude around it came, on some level, from knowing that I still liked boys.”

Anderson also revealed that she was offered a part on Downtown Abbey, but opted to declined the role. She begins working with PBS on another project titled Great Expectations which premieres on April 1st on PBS.
