George Lopez To Return To Family Sitcom Genre

After George Lopez made an abrupt exit from his short career in late night television, no one was sure when we’d get to see him again.  Now, thankfuly, we know he’s going back to his roots, and returning to the family sitcom genre.

Lopez is teaming up with his manager to develop a sitcom that is sure to go straight into syndication, on the heels of the success he garnered from his self-entitled hit show George Lopez. The new project will be produced under Debmar-Mercury’s 10-90 model, in which the company will sell shows to cable networks with a 10 episode guarantee. If the show meets its target ratings, it will continue on to a multi-season order on the scale of 90 episodes.

Lopez wants to adopt the same model of Debmar-Mercury’s prior success, with shows like Tyler Perry’s House Of Payne, Meet The Browns and Ice Cube’s Are We There Yet? – all of which are beyond the syndication threshold.

Charlie Sheen’s comedy series Anger Management that will air on FX, also adopted this model.

Lopez is expected to have complete ownership of his show.
